K4: (Half Day)

 

Character Development:

  • Problem-solving based on “What would Jesus do?”

  • Respect

  • Manners

  • Making good choices

  • Obedience

  • Leadership

Structured classroom setting:

  • Each child has his/her own desk and chair

  • Pledges/Calendar

  • Letter recognition and letter sounds introduced with songs or stories

  • Reading words/reading sentences

  • Writing all alphabet letters/ Writing child’s first name

  • Number recognition and writing numbers 1-20

  • Counting to 100

  • Language and vocabulary development

  • Arts & Crafts

 

Daily snack and recess

Weekly PE and Music

Parent/Teacher Conferences in October and March

Holiday Parties

Participation in school musical programs (Christmas and Spring)

 

K4 (full day)

 

Review of concepts that were learned in the morning session.

  • Learn to locate each state on the map

  • Book about State

  • State quarter (commemorative)

  • State Flag and State Animal/Bird

  • Famous people, places, food/crop

  • Write and illustrate

  • Art/Craft

  • Science experiments

  • Lights, Camera, Action! (re enact a favorite thing learned about the state)

K5 (half day):

 

Phonics:

  • Reading short and long vowel words

  • Read words w/ special sounds (th, sh, ch, etc.)

  • Sight words (the, to, do, you, etc.)

  • Sentence structure & punctuation marks

  • Reading groups beginning in November

Writing:

  • Trace and write print words and sentences

  • Copy words and sentences from the chalkboard

Spelling:

  • Short spelling tests given in spring

Numbers:

  • Count to 100 by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s

  • Number recognition 1-100

  • Addition up to the 10’s family

  • Telling time to the hour, half hour and a quarter after

  • After and before numbers

  • Number words 1-10

  • Introduction to subtraction (Spring)

Social Studies:

  • Community Helpers

  • Our Country

  • Children Around the World

Science:

  • God’s World

  • The Seasons

  • Animals

  • The 5 Senses

Full Day K5

(p.m. session):

 

Review of concepts that were learned in the morning session and go over papers

 

Phonics:

  • Rhyming words and riddles

  • Learn 10 nursery rhymes (vocab, sentence strips, sequencing, acting them out as a class)

  • Learning additional sight words

  • Additional reading time

Creative Writing:

  • Write and illustrate 4-5 books

Writing:

  • Cursive writing (beginning 2nd semester)

Numbers:

  • Count 1-200 by 1’s and 10’s

  • Number recognition 100-200

  • Telling time by 5’s around the clock

Social Study:

  • Expand on each unit

  • Learn to locate 12 countries on map and globe

  • Science experiments

Bible:

  • Look and find pictures

Directional Drawing Lessons:

  • Houses, people, facial expressions, horizon lines, perspectives

 

P.M. K5 classes will get an additional PE class on Tuesday afternoons and an Art class on Thursday afternoon
